Back in 2016, the Premium Team undertook a unique project in Kakamega County that ended in a breathtaking alternative house never seen before in rural Kenya.
We built a three-bedroom container house that provides a functional and affordable living solution.
The house is made up of two 40ft repurposed shipping containers that have been transformed into a modern and spacious living space.
The house features a large living room, a kitchen, bedrooms, and bathrooms. It is also equipped with electrical and plumbing systems, and is perfectly insulated to cater for all weather conditions.
The Container House Design in Pictures
The project aimed to provide a cost-effective and sustainable housing solution for individuals and families looking for an alternative to traditional homes. Shipping container homes are becoming increasingly popular due to their affordability, durability, and eco-friendliness.
The use of shipping containers in construction also provides an opportunity to reduce waste and repurpose materials that would otherwise end up in landfills. The container house was designed to blend seamlessly into its natural surroundings, creating a unique and inviting living space that offers residents a serene and peaceful environment.
So, How Much Will Such a Structure Cost?
The current cost of a three-bedroom container house like this one built by Premium Containers in Kakamega varies depending on several factors, such as the size of the house, level of customization, and materials used.
However, on average, such a structure costs anywhere from Ksh 2.5 million, which is a cost-effective option compared to traditional building methods.
